Germany's central bank says Germans still prefer cash

Frankfurt (dpa) - Germany's consumers still prefer to pay in cash, despite the many hi-tech modern alternatives, a member of the central bank's board said on Wednesday.
"Cash remains the most popular, although payments by card are on the rise," Bundesbank Executive Board member Carl-Ludwig Thiele said in Frankfurt, citing a Bundesbank study that found that 74 per cent of all payments at cash tills were made in notes and coins.
