U.S. gov't warns public of new phone scam

WASHINGTON, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the taxation agency of the federal government, warned the public Friday of a new type of "IRS impersonation phone scam."
The IRS said the new scam was the most recent variation of IRS impersonation scams, in which target victims would receive fake calls from the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS), an independent organization under the IRS.
