Topnaars fear donkey theft for abattoirs

SWAKOPMUND, 19 SEP (NAMPA) – The Topnaar community that live along the Kuiseb River in the Erongo Region is concerned that proposed donkey abattoirs could lead to an increase in the theft of the animals.
“My people are hearing stories regarding this matter and some are concerned,” said Chief of the Topnaar Traditional Authority, Seth Kooitjie.
He told Nampa on enquiry Monday, they use donkeys for transport and sometimes sell to those who slaughter the animals for its meat.
