AFP presents a reportage of 22 pictures taken by photographer Luis Tato in the village of Katwadde, Lwengo District, on January 8, 2026, of Uganda's Quidditch players with global dreams. The craze for Harry Potter's favourite sport, Quidditch, has reached a remote village in southern Uganda. In a clearing surrounded by banana trees, deep in rural Uganda, players are running around with sticks between their legs in lieu of broomsticks. The adapted version of Quidditch, officially called quadball, has gained a following around the world and it came to Katwadde village in Uganda in 2013 thanks to primary school teacher John Ssentamu, who discovered the sport after reading a Harry Potter book over the shoulder of someone on a bus.
