A skier sets off down the red run ‘Glacier’, in Tignes, south-eastern France, on July 11, 2026. Several ski runs and lifts on the Grande Motte Glacier, which is part of the Tignes ski area in the French Alps, allow skiing throughout the winter and into early summer. The resort traditionally reopens selected alpine ski runs earlier than any other in France at the start of the autumn season. The glacier can be accessed via the Perce-Neige funicular, which connects Tignes Val Claret (at around 2,150 metres altitude) to the foot of the glacier (at 3,032 metres). From there, the Grande Motte cable car takes skiers and pedestrians to the 3,456-metre summit of the ski area, offering access to the glacier's highest slopes.
