(260109) -- BEIJING, Jan. 9, 2026 (Xinhua) -- Cering Lhamo holds her one-month-old daughter Yanggim Lhamo in Tingri County of Xigaze City, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, on Jan. 5, 2026.
In January 2025, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Tingri County in Xigaze, leveling thousands of houses. Among those affected was Cering Lhamo, a young mother in Tonglai Village of Tingri County, who lost her 3-year-old child in the disaster.
Within three days of the earthquake, Xizang launched a post-disaster reconstruction plan and began preliminary work, which included housing design, surveying and debris clearance. Just two months later, the reconstruction began.
In October 2025, Cering Lhamo's new house has been completed and handed over. She was pregnant and was expecting in December. "When I give birth to my child, we will already be living in our new house," she said, hope glittering in her eyes.
Now, one year after the earthquake, Cering Lhamo has embraced a new beginning. Her baby girl is one month old, and her older daughter, whom she was carrying in her arms after the earthquake hit, is running in their new house. (Xinhua/Jiang Fan)
