Cabinet approves gradual removal of redline restrictions

WINDHOEK, 19 SEP (NAMPA) - Cabinet has approved the gradual removal of the veterinary cordon fence restrictions, also known as the red line.
This was announced on Thursday by Information, Communication, and Technology, Deputy Minister Modestus Amutse at the government information centre.
Amutse said Cabinet directed the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, to carry out a feasibility study over a period of two years (2024/25 -2025/26 financial years).
The estimated budget of the feasibility study should be determined and submitted to Treasury for appropriation during the Mid-Term Budget Review.
He added that Cabinet further directed the ministry to create disease-free zones to consist of veterinary fences and new veterinary gates, recruitment of additional staff members, and construction of staff accommodation and others to commence from 2027-2032 for five years.
Amutse said funding will be secured for the proposed interventions for the creation of disease-free zones in various identified areas.
“Identified areas include the Mangetti area, Karikubis in Kavango East Region, Tsumkwe Constituency in Otjozondjupa Region, Mangetti East Farms in the Kavango West Region, Mangetti West and Onalusheshete Farms in Oshikoto Region, Ombuga area in Oshana Region, Omutambo Maowe area in Omusati Region and Sesfontein area Kunene Region,” the deputy minister said.
