Wall Street stocks dipped early Thursday, retreating from records as markets digested mixed economic data and began assessing damage from Hurricane Milton. US consumer inflation cooled slightly last month, with the annual reading declining to 2.4 percent in September from a year ago, down from 2.5 percent in August.
