WINDHOEK, 22 OCT (NAMPA) - A 31-year-old man accused of stabbing his girlfriend 51 times pleaded not guilty at the commencement of his trial in the Windhoek High Court on Tuesday.
Lolo Kambwela reportedly fatally stabbed Nghimushima Haufiku on 13 February 2022, in the DRC informal settlement of Otjiwarongo. It is also further alleged that he locked Haufiku’s body in her shack and threw the key away. The State is further charging that he hid the knife he used to stab Haufiku.
Kambwela has been charged with murder and defeating the course of justice, to which he pleaded not guilty. He did not provide a plea explanation, although he confirmed that they were in a relationship at the time.
According to the indictment, Kambwela visited Haufiku on the night in question and an argument erupted between them. A postmortem found that Haufiku died as a result of hypovolemic shock due to blood loss as a result of stab wounds sustained on her chest.
The state is also alleging that Kambwela took off with a cellphone used by both of them. Despite his not guilty plea on Tuesday, court records indicate that Kambwela reported himself to the police the same night. The trial is continuing before Magistrate Claudia Claasen. The State is represented by Anna Amukugo, while Kenneth Siyambango is representing the suspect.
