If the Vendee Globe, the solo non-stop round the world yacht race, is predominantly a French affair, there are signs that it is opening up. Of the 40 skippers who will start the three-month circumnavigation of the globe on Sunday, 13 are non-French, a number which includes Xu Jingkun, the first Chinese sailor ever to take part.
