German steel industry's order book thins over summer

Frankfurt (dpa) - Germany's struggling steel industry saw the value of its orders fall by 9.4% in the third quarter of 2024 compared with the previous quarter, according to data released on Wednesday. The decline was 9.7% compared with the same period last year, the federal statistics office Destatis said. As a result, the order backlog shrank by 4.9% compared with the previous quarter.
