Kyrgyzstan said Friday that it would change its national anthem, deeming it too reminiscent of the Soviet era, in the latest move to update its state symbols and strengthen national identity. The official Kabar news agency said a parliamentary commission had been formed to look into ditching the current anthem, which was adopted in 1991 and has the same melody as the old Soviet one.
