No bail for man accused of fatally stabbing ex-girlfriend in Windhoek

WINDHOEK, 16 JAN (NAMPA) - Tjizake Murangi, who stands accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend Frieda Amadhila, was denied bail in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The 22-year-old Murangi allegedly stabbed Amadhila eight times after he broke into her flat in Windhoek in April last year. Amadhila, 29, was employed as a banker.
Reports indicate that she had ended their relationship prior to the incident.
Magistrate Monica Andjaba denied bail, citing the seriousness of the offence, the administration of justice, and public interest in the matter.
The Namibian Police Force reported at the time that neighbours alerted them about the couple’s fight. Upon arrival, police found the flat locked. It is further alleged that the suspect drove to Katutura State Hospital, parked the vehicle at the emergency room door and informed nurses that Amadhila needed urgent attention.
She was however declared dead upon arrival. Murangi was subsequently admitted to the hospital after a failed suicide attempt. He reportedly slit his throat with a knife.
Defence lawyer Milton Engelbrecht represented the suspect, while Rowan van Wyk represented the State.
