NEW YORK, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Monday. The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 1.19 percent to 108.044 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT). In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.0421 U.S. dollars from 1.0276 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.2337 dollars from 1.2167 dollars in the previous session.
