Greece elects new parliament speaker

ATHENS, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Nikitas Kaklamanis, a senior lawmaker from Greece's ruling New Democracy (ND) party, was elected speaker of parliament on Wednesday, securing 247 votes in the 300-member plenary. Kaklamanis succeeds Constantine Tassoulas, who resigned last week following the announcement of his nomination as ND's candidate for the country's presidency.
