Nampa CEO eulogises Nujoma
WINDHOEK, 09 FEB (NAMPA) – The Chief Executive Officer of the Namibia Press Agency, Linus Chata, has said that Founding President Sam Nujoma will remain a symbol of Namibia’s struggle for freedom.
Chata said that Nujoma, who died on Saturday at the age of 95, served the Namibian people with dedication during the armed struggle and throughout his tenure as president of the country.
“He will forever remain the symbol of our nation’s fight for freedom, liberty and the right for self-determination. He was the anchor of Namibian nationalism and patriotism, and the beacon that led us towards independence and self-determination,” he said.
On Sunday morning, the Namibian nation received the news of the passing of the former Statesman, who had been receiving treatment at a Windhoek hospital for the past three weeks.
The national press agency was one of the first to report President Nangolo Mbumba’s announcement of Nujoma’s death.
Chata said Nujoma, who led the armed struggle and ruled independent Namibia for 15 years, served his people well.
“For the love of his people and the country, he selflessly sacrificed his youth and led the protracted armed liberation struggle against the racist apartheid South Africa colonial machinery with unbending commitment to the freedom of his motherland,” Chata said.
“As the first President of the Republic of Namibia, he led the country with determination and love for his people and masterful Statesmanship.”
He added that Nujoma was a living example of leadership, actively engaging in agricultural production and studying geology to inspire Namibian youth to exploit the country’s rich mineral resources.
“He actively led the construction of the railway line to the northern parts of the country and established a clinic at his farm for farm workers and neighbours long after retiring as president,” Chata said.
Nujoma’s unwavering determination for Namibia’s independence, Chata said, teaches Namibians that dreams can come true.
“He showed us that all challenges can be overcome and that dreams, no matter how unrealistic they might seem, can be made true through hard work, commitment, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in the power of the people,” Chata said of Nujoma.
