Brazil's year-on-year inflation slid slightly in January to 4.56 percent, the statistics agency reported Tuesday, but high food prices continue to haunt President Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva's government. The drop in inflation from 4.83 percent was attributed to a 14.2 percent decrease in energy costs after a positive balance at the Itaipu hydroelectric plant led to a discount for consumers, the IBGE statistics body explained.
