Germany hit by cold blast as temperatures drop below minus 20 degrees

Hamburg (dpa) - A cold blast in Germany caused temperatures to plummet below minus 20 degrees Celsius on Monday. Anklam in the north-eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern recorded a temperature of minus 20.7 degrees at ground level at around 6 am (0500 GMT), a spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD) said. Minus 18.4 degrees was also recorded on Monday morning in the Harz mountain region using a more standardized measurement at a height......
