ROME, March 3 (Xinhua) -- An estimated 28.8 percent of Italian children between 8 and 9 years of age were overweight or obese in 2023, with the highest rates recorded in southern regions such as Campania and Calabria, a report showed on Monday. Marking World Obesity Day, which falls on March 4, the Italian branch of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) highlighted obesity as a major concern in Italy.
