Chinese-owned British Steel confirmed Thursday plans to shut blast furnaces and other operations in England, potentially costing up to 2,700 jobs. "Challenging market conditions and significant ongoing financial losses have made it unsustainable to continue operating the blast furnaces and wider steelmaking operations," British Steel said in a statement, with people close to the matter adding that between "2,000 and 2,700" were at risk. ode-bcp/......
