Huge scrap heap goes up in flames in Germany

Dusseldorf (dpa) - The fire brigade has brought a fire under control at a scrap heap in the western German city of Essen after a lengthy operation. The heap was approximately 10,000 square metres in size and up to 15 metres high. "The measures have shown effect: By clearing with excavators, we were able to isolate the burning section and extinguish it using three turntable ladders and a large tank fire engine," a fire brigade spokesperson said......
