Berlin/Brussels (dpa) - Germany plans to use an exemption in European debt rules proposed by the European Commission to increase defence spending. In a letter to the Brussels authority, acting Federal Finance Minister Jörg Kukies formally applied for the activation of the so-called national escape clause for Germany for the period from 2025 to 2028.
