WINDHOEK, 27 NOV (NAMPA) - Namibian Police Force Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has said no reports of violence, injury or death had been recorded at polling stations across the country, where Namibians are casting their votes, by Wednesday morning.
Speaking to Nampa at the Emma Hoogenhout Primary School polling station in Windhoek, Shikongo said all regional commanders have confirmed that operations are running smoothly.
“This is one of the polling stations I visited this morning and I can tell you I am a stress-free inspector general because wherever you go, you’ll see the environment is fine. I will visit more points and I believe what we found here is what we will find at other polling stations. There’s no reason for Namibians to go and push each other. If they were able to navigate through the campaigns, which took much longer, they can still do the same,” Shikongo said.
He encouraged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
“Criminals must know that even though we are here, at polling centres, we have more forces who are deployed to ensure public security everywhere in the corners of the republic,” Shikongo added.
Polling stations are open from 07h00 to 21h00 for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
