WINDHOEK, 19 FEB (NAMPA) - Northern-based businessman Joshua Haimbodi has expressed gratitude to Founding President Sam Nujoma for his efforts in driving economic transformation and black empowerment, which strengthened Namibia’s business community.
Speaking to Nampa on Wednesday, Haimbodi credited Nujoma’s Vision 2030 initiative for laying the foundation for major development projects, including the Tsumeb-Oshikango railway.
“He also worked tirelessly to abolish harmful cultural practices, especially among marginalised communities, and initiated programmes that encouraged parents to send their children to school. One of his most impactful initiatives was the school feeding programme, which provides meals to children, ensuring that hunger was not a barrier to education,” Haimbodi said.
He noted that Nujoma’s dedication to education continues to serve as source of inspiration.
“At the age of 80, he earned a master’s degree in geology from the University of Namibia, exemplifying the power of perseverance and lifelong learning. His guidance and encouragement motivated me to take a bold step, temporarily stepping away from my business to pursue a degree in political science at Bircham University in Spain. His journey reinforced my belief that education is a continuous process that shapes both personal and professional growth,” Haimbodi said.
Nujoma died on 08 February 2025. He will be laid to rest at the Heroes Acre on 01 March 2025. The government has declared 01 March a public holiday.
