Tax evasion trial against ex-DFB official Schmidt to be discontinued

Frankfurt (dpa) - The proceedings against former German Football Federation (DFB) secretary general Horst R Schmidt on charges of tax evasion in connection with the 2006 World Cup is to be discontinued. A spokesperson for the Frankfurt regional court and Schmidt's lawyers told dpa on Monday that the proceedings will be dropped in return for the payment of a fine.
