German retailers lower their Christmas sales predictions

Berlin (dpa) - The German Retailers' Association (HDE) lowered its predictions for the key Christmas period on Wednesday, given consumers' preference for savings over consumption. Turnover for 2024 is now expected to come in at a nominal increase of 1.3% year-on-year, down from a previously predicted rise of 3.5%. In real terms, this means that sales are forecast to flatline.
