Cattle herder dies in lightning strike at Kamuti

NKURENKURU, 23 FEB (NAMPA)- A 33-year-old cattle herder, identified as Moyo Yishime, died after being struck by lightning at Kamuti village in the Kavango West Region on Friday.
Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga of the Namibian Police Force in the region confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred between 15h00 and 17h00 at Kamuti village, Ncamagoro Constituency, in the Kavango West Region.
It is alleged that a community member found the deceased’s body on Saturday at around 16h45, approximately 500 metres away from the homestead in the bush.
Muronga said further information indicated that the deceased's body was discovered alongside three dead cattle a few metres away, all suspected to have been killed by the lightning strike.
The deceased was a cattle herder and had not returned the previous day until he was found dead.
Muronga said the body was transported to Rundu State Mortuary for an autopsy.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed of his death.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
